On the news, we had all heard of the Coronavirus and how it was affecting heavily populated areas, but we all felt that it would never reach the Piney Woods of East Texas. Even extending Spring Break by a week, everyone felt that we would soon be returning to classes and sharing stories of what all we had done during the break. Little did we know at the time, that not only Central Heights, but the entire word would soon be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Your lives changed. Every day routines such as riding the bus, going to class, eating lunch with friends, afterschool practices and ball games changed to “social distancing, on-line classwork, packets, learning how to quarantine, “Zoom conferencing”, curbside pick-ups and there was even a toilet paper shortage to deal with. Although many of these new experiences were inconvenient, I feel that they will all have a positive impact on how we go about our day to day routines in the future. My heart goes out to the “Class of 2020”. Your Senior year is supposed to be filled with so many “last time” moments that you never got the opportunity to experience. I hope that the events that we have planned in place of the traditional graduation will recognize and honor you for your accomplishments. I want each of you to know how proud I am of how you have coped with this situation. I know this pandemic will make you stronger as you turn to the next chapter in your life. Who knows, one of you may be the next scientist or doctor that discovers a cure or vaccine for this virus. Where ever your future takes you, please know that you will always hold a special place in the hearts of the Blue Devil Family. CHISD Transfer Application Procedure: CHISD Transfer Applications can be accessed by clicking on the link below. Please print the packet at home and then return by mail to the address provided in the packet. CHISD will accept applications for transfer between April 6 th and May 29 th , 2020. CHISD Transfer Application Packet for 2020-2021 CENTRAL HEIGHTS ISD 2020-21 PRE-K PROGRAM APPLICATION Head Start Pre-K Program- based on eligibility, age 4 A child is eligible for FREE, public Pre-K if the child is age 4 on or before Sept 1 AND at least one of the following the family qualifies for free or reduced meal program (please fill out the child nutrition application before registering at school); https://tea.texas.gov/sites/default/files/PKG_Final_2015_navigation.pdf OR is unable to speak or comprehend English; OR is a homeless child; OR is the child of an active- duty member of the armed forces or child of an active duty member of the armed forces injured or killed in the line of duty; OR has been or is in the conservatorship of the state; OR Texas Star Award for first responders. Students must live within the Central Heights ISD boundary (proof of residency required) or child of an employee. TUITION-BASED PRE-K Central Heights ISD can offer tuition-based Pre-K age 4 program for all children in the Central Heights ISD boundary, plus children of employees, who do not meet the state eligibility for free Pre-K. WE WILL OPEN UP TUITION-BASED SERVICES on May 5, 2020, after all, eligible students have been offered services.
